Yesterday and today little flakes of snow fell here at RIT. Nothing got close to sticking, but that snow came a whole lot earlier than back home. Well, I'm a bit tired now after a long week. Exams are coming up next week, and then Thanksgiving break! Well…until next post.
This past weekend was a bit windy. Along with the wind came a decent rainstorm that served as a perfect opportunity for many of the trees around here to drop their leaves. It was quite interesting walking down the Quarter Mile and being able to see well into the woods now that so many leaves have fallen. Well, it's the last week of this quarter, and I have a lot of work to do. Exams next week and then Thanksgiving Break!! Time sure does fly in the quarter system!
There have been rumors flying this past week, but now Nikon has officially announced their new D200 digital SLR camera. I know, I know…I am a diehard Canon user and would hardly consider purchasing this camera. It is interesting nonetheless because the D200 looks poised to hurt sales of my Canon EOS 20D. The specifications are quite similar, but the differences show where prosumer digital technology has headed since the year and a three months ago Canon announced the 20D. Nikon's LCD is larger, the CCD sensor is physically larger, 10.2 megapixels versus 8.2 megapixels (not much practical difference), and the Nikon has better construction. Read the rest of this entry »
I finally posted a couple galleries that have been sitting around for a while. They are some photos my parents took back home and some candid photos of my Photo I class shooting 4x5s at Mt. Hope Cemetery. At some point (we all know you can't trust any deadline I set for myself ;)) I have to post the hockey photos I mentioned last weekend and the digital photos I took for another Photo I assignment (I'll be taking more of those photos today). The hold up on this posting was because of some work I was doing to the underlying structure of the site to replace tables with cascading style sheets. I am almost ready to implement that code, but these photos could not wait any longer!
I just got back from RIT's first home Division I NCAA hockey game versus the Canisius Golden Griffins. It was a great game, but in the end, the Tigers lost with a score of 1 to 2 :(. I took photos of the game and hope to post them this weekend. Tomorrow is National Portfolio Day here on campus, and I will be selling various food items with other Honors students in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences. We are raising money for a spring break trip to Chicago :). The coming week is supposed to be full of temperatures in the 40s and rain, but instead of grumbling, I'll give you a bit of a recap of today's hockey game. Read the rest of this entry »
I love eBay :). I just got a good ole Quicksilver PowerMac G4 computer delivered to my RIT address yesterday! I would have mentioned this sooner, but I was too busy planning for the computer and then setting up the software and such to my liking. I'm typing this with it right now. It is quite a new experience working on a desktop Mac when I have seen the Apple world mainly through my laptop for over a year and a half now. I have a bit of school work to do this weekend, but if you're lucky, I may post up to three new photo galleries very soon :D.
There have been lots of things going on I could talk about, but the fact that lots of things are going on makes me too busy to talk about them ;). Perhaps by the end of this week I'll have some more concrete things to post. I just received a bunch of photos from home, so those might make their way somewhere as well. Until then…
It is now 46° F outside and dropping. Giuliani's speech earlier today was quite good with some great leadership tips and a doce of humor here and there. When he first got on stage, he made fun of RIT's President's New York accent and compared it to listening to hours of police recordings of mafia bosses :).
Now I'm safely inside after fighting my way through what can only be described as a mob to see Jon Stewart. Luckily I bought my tickets well in advance (well over a month ago) and I arrived at the Field House an hour early. Even an hour early, several impromptu lines had formed to enter. Thursday 83° F, Friday 71° F, today 51° F: This is not good :(. This weekend is RIT's Brick City Homecoming. I'm hiding in the Gordon Field House away from the cold breeze outside and waiting for Rudy Giuliani to take the stage. It's great having wireless access in so many areas ;). Later tonight at 8:00 I'll be back here to see Jon Stewart. That is sure to be a hilarious two-and-a-half hours. I'm sure to get my political fill today with two speakers on somewhat opposite sides of the political spectrum. The sign language interpreter just took the stage…around here, that means things are getting ready to start. Later!
