Stuff

October 6th, 2005

Yesterday, I was indeed a part of the It's So Tech WITR radio show. I'll be sure to post the download link or podcast feed to the show if and when they get around to setting up such a service.

Another important thing: If you were attacked by the AIM distributed virus I mentioned a couple posts ago, be sure check the root level of you C: drive for the file xz.bat. If that batch file is present, Read the rest of this entry »

IT's So Tech

October 5th, 2005

I'm posting this Tuesday night, but I guess it's really Wednesday (barely). I love Wednesdays for two reasons: first class is at 2:00pm :), and ITSO (IT Student Organization) club meetings. Well, this Wednesday is a bit special in that I will be a guest on a new radio show called IT's So Tech. Broadcast live from 8-10pm on RIT's radio station WITR and streamed live on the Internet, this will be the second installment of the show. Go to ModernMusicandMore.com to get more info and listen in on the stream.

Here's the official show description: "Tune into WITR's hottest new talk show. Featuring WITR DJs and brave volunteers from ITSO – the IT Student Organization, IT's So Tech is two solid hours of tech talk with a college student slant. Tune in, and be ready to call with your arguments!"

Virus warning

October 3rd, 2005

Here's a little virus alert that seems to be going through some of my friends' AIM accounts. If you suddenly (and quite randomly) get a message with a link asking you to check something out or take a look at some photos, don't click the link. If you do, you will see your browser ask to download a ".com" file. This is a Windows executable that will infect you (if your virus protection is lacking, unlike mine :)). If you are on Mac or Linux (as I am as well ;)) disregard this post or go laugh at my Windows using friends…just kidding. Heads up out there.

It got warmer

October 2nd, 2005

To confirm my last post, it did get warmer here over the weekend. It's now a sunny 78° F…a perfect day for the Honors Picnic, which was postponed from a couple weeks ago due to rain. These picnic sort of events are always a great place to get free food! On the list of other things happening, Ubuntu v5.10 "Breezy Badger" is nearing release this month. Firefox and Thunderbird versions 1.5 are also nearing release 🙂 Currently in beta, we should be seeing the first release candidates by the end of this month.

Windy Rochester

September 29th, 2005

It sure is windy today. Over the past week, it has been cooling down here in Rochester. Today's high is around 60° F. The wind certainly doesn't help make it warmer. Luckily, things will be warming up a bit back to the mid 70s over the coming weekend. Too bad the warm weather won't last much longer :(. I do look forward to wearing my winter clothes, though. That is one redeeming factor of freezing temperatures.

Ubuntu vs Fedora

September 23rd, 2005

During my breaks this weekend from homework, I've been trying out a different distribution of Linux. Some of you know I am a fan of the Fedora Core distribution that stemmed off of Red Hat Linux. Well, after trying Ubuntu (specifically the 5.10 – "Breezy Badger" preview release), which stems off of Debian, I might have to change my preference. This new Ubuntu release has excellent package management and I believe a slightly lower learning curve than Fedora. This might change a bit when Fedora Core 5 is released sometime around February next year, but I think I'll stick with Ubuntu for now. Read the rest of this entry »

Aaah! Wednesday and no post yet!!

September 21st, 2005

Well, at least this is more than weekly 🙂 Basically, besides classes, I've been doing some website work this week…balancing both my site and developing an online event calendar for RIT's Honors program. I've also been getting more involved in the IT Student Organization (ITSO) and working on getting a job with ITS here at RIT. I guess I need to keep the computer/tech side of me happy. 😉 Read the rest of this entry »

Sitting on a Saturday

September 17th, 2005

Sorry about the spread out pace of these posts. I'm getting into a weekly post cycle it seems. I'll do my best to post a little more often this coming week 🙂 Anyway, I updated the Services page to the new site design and altered its content to fit with my college life. Also, those of you who spend too much time on my site (probably only me ;)) may have noticed the full page of blog entries has moved from epkphoto.com/blog.php to epkphoto.com/blog/. That might mean I'm working on updating the structure and functionality of my blog engine…hint, hint 😀 Read the rest of this entry »

New Kitten Videos :)

September 10th, 2005

I just posted some videos of our new kittens taken a few months ago shortly after they arrived home. Head on over to the media section of the site to watch them. Make sure you have an up to date video player (like QuickTime v7 or VLC). I'm liking Apple's support of the new H264 codec…just ignore me if you don't know what that means.

I also phased in the new design to more pages of the site. Slow and steady wins the race. Eventually I may ask for help finding pages that need the transition. Large areas left include the photo galleries and the Services page. Enjoy the videos 🙂

First week of classes

September 8th, 2005

Well, since I don't have any Friday classes, it's the weekend! After having my first classes at RIT this week, I'm still excited to be here. No regrets so far. I have three photo related classes this quarter as well as a literature course focusing on books banned by Soviet Russia. The photo classes are moving along quite quickly for us photo-tech students (the photo art students are slower, of course…I don't want to say photo science is better, but… 😉 ). I'm also looking into trying out for a part in the RIT Players' cast this weekend. I'll let you know how that goes. Bye, bye for now.
