Juggling and other updates

My new juggling clubs!

I just got back from a dinner celebrating the Monroe County Honor Guard's 25th anniversary. A small group of us was invited since we raised over $500 for them earlier this year. I do have to say, the food at the dinner was quite good :). In other news, I won a $100 set of juggling clubs in a raffle at the 29th annual RIT Juggle-In. This convention is quite well attended by some impressive, famous jugglers. You'll want to make sure you read this full post to see some photos of the clubs! More news after the jump: Mamiya selling its camera business and I'm running for RIT Honors Treasurer…

After news of Nikon reducing its film camera business and Konica Minolta selling its goods to Sony, Mamiya seems to be following suit. Details are still sketchy, but it looks like they are selling their digital and film camera biz to Cosmos Scientific, an IT based Japanese company. Their should be some more information regarding that later this year. It, like the other announcements, comes as a bit of a shock. When I was younger, I always looked up to the medium format land dominated by Mamiya, Hasselblad, Bronica, and others. Despite Mamiya's pretty nice digital lineup, Hasselblad has indeed made some serious advancements digitally with their H series cameras. By the way, I use an 8.2 megapixel camera and Hasselblad and Mamiya compete in the range of 22-32 megapixel cameras. Now you know why I look up to them 🙂

Lastly, Honors Council elections are coming up at the end of next week. I am running for Treasurer and have a lot of support behind me already. It looks like the Treasurer position is the only one with competition, but I feel confident that I will win. If you are an RIT Honors student reading this…don't forget to vote!

As promised, here are some nice photos of my new juggling clubs:

That RIT Juggling program looks top notch – that was some pretty serious entertainment at the Juggle-in. The question is – are you skilled enough yet to actually use those clubs that you won? If so, you may be able to put them to use at the beachfront or at Waterside/Town Point Park this summer and pick up enough extra change to be be able to purchase something from Hasselblad! It is always good to know that you have a SKILL that you can fall back on if that IAS Degree thing does not work out! Also – good luck with the Treasurer election; politics is another wide open field. Who knows where it will lead – first, Treasurer of the RIT Honors Club, next maybe Mayor of Chesapeake!
