RIT vs Canisius

October 22nd, 2005 at 11:37 pm

I just got back from RIT's first home Division I NCAA hockey game versus the Canisius Golden Griffins. It was a great game, but in the end, the Tigers lost with a score of 1 to 2 :(. I took photos of the game and hope to post them this weekend. Tomorrow is National Portfolio Day here on campus, and I will be selling various food items with other Honors students in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences. We are raising money for a spring break trip to Chicago :). The coming week is supposed to be full of temperatures in the 40s and rain, but instead of grumbling, I'll give you a bit of a recap of today's hockey game.

This game was RIT's first in the Division I hockey league. Last night they played an away game against Canisius and won 5 to 3. Today, though the team played hard, they were not so fortunate. The first thing I noticed were the unified shouts from the crowd after various happenings on the ice. For instance, whenever we missed a goal, they would shout, "Oh shit!" šŸ™‚ When a ref made a call against us, "Loser!" Lastly, my favorite, after each introduction of the opposing team members, "You suck!"

Things started quickly after the Griffins scored an early goal in the first period. Later in the game, however, the Tigers brought the score back to a tie with a goal that excited the crowd of cheering, orange fans. The score remained tied through the second period. Shortly after the start of the last period, the Griffins scored again with a goal that was nearly revoked by the refs. Similarly, the Tigers answered back minutes later with another goal. This one, however, was indeed revoked after the refs said the puck did not fully cross the goal line. This highly controversial call was met with many boos from the crowd. The score stood and no other points were made in the game. That ended it 2 to 1. Let's hope the Tigers have better luck next week when they face St. Lawrence University.
